In Leningrad
Vocal by Jay Jacques
Music by Jay Jacques
Lyrics by Mark Chimsky
Storyline: The musical begins with people waiting in line for their ration of one slice of bread (125 grams ) a day. The song begins with the townspeople and soldiers, and then shifts to Vladimir, the king of Leningrad’s black market, singing from his balcony. The song then introduces the poet Sveta, who urges the people to hold onto hope. The music slows as a young widow with a child begs for food. The Russian soldier gives her his slice of bread as the ensemble concludes the song.
